In 2017, Lauren Lanski was named Head Coach of the Buena High School Cheer team, and began teaching Health/College & Career. Under her leadership, the Cheer program has grown exponentially. Prior to joining the staff at Buena, she served in VUSD as a substitute teacher for nine years and as a preschool teacher for three.
She is a Master Preschool Educator with 24 ECE units, and has taught PE and served as an AYSO soccer coach. Coach Lanski holds a BA in Psychology from Sonoma State University and earned her teaching credentials in Health Education and Physical Education from the University of La Verne.
Her coaching style combines instilling leadership, athletic excellence and discipline, all based on trust. “The foundation of our program is built on communication and trust among the cheerleaders and coaching team,” says Lanski. “We believe in creating a safe environment with mutual respect, where all cheerleaders can lift each other up. The focus is creating high expectations, and helping the athletes rise to that.”
Her advice to cheerleaders for success: Be dedicated, committed and willing to work hard—and put team before self. Be able to hear constructive criticism and make the necessary adjustments, while maintaining a positive attitude.
She and her husband Tom Lanski, a Captain in the Ventura County Fire Department, have lived in Ventura since 1996, and they have three young adult children, Amy, Jake and Nick. Coach Lanski’s favorite sports are cheer, soccer, which she played in high school, volleyball and football. Her hobbies include gardening, exercising, walking her dogs on the beach, cooking, and listening to podcasts.
